The Daylighting Pattern Guide is an interactive tool which leverages proven daylighting strategies in a variety of building types. Developed in partnership with the New Buildings Institute and the Integrated Design Lab at the University of Idaho, the Pattern Guide explores how interior daylighting can be altered through the manipulation of site, aperture size and location, space planning and volumetric relationships. Approximately twenty such daylighting patterns are available for easy identification and comparison.
The guide uses a combination of built examples and advanced digital simulation to set the stage for substantial reductions in lighting power consumption and overall energy use through successful daylighting design.
