Lightfair Class Monday May 26, 2008

Christopher Meek from the Integrated Design Lab will be teaching a class at this year's Lightfair in Las Vegas.

The course is titled Daylight Design, Performance and Commissioning: Challenges for Contemporary Practice

Course Info: With increased focus on sustainable design, energy efficiency, carbon accounting and stringent building codes, daylighting becomes even more important in architectural and lighting design. This requires maximizing daylight and reducing energy performance; electric lighting systems must be well integrated with controls in to the daylighting design and properly commissioned. This workshop illustrates how lighting designers can participate in the daylighting design, follow-through beyond the architectural decisions and lead the coordination to ensure success. Commissioning documents, and design reviews are also described with examples.

Learning Objectives:
1. Develop an awareness of common daylighting design challenges
2. Comprehend the architectural and electrical components of a daylighting system
3. Understand the methods and steps for design coordination to successfully implement daylighting

Speakers: Prasad Vaidya and Christopher Meek
