Projects

The IDL has worked with numerous regional, national, and international projects over the last 10 years encompassing over 2 Million square feet per year of new construction. Key aspects to design assistance include tracking the energy performance of commercial and institutional building energy, documenting and educating the building industry about integrated team processes and performance of individual and bundled strategies, and communicating key energy efficiency design concepts to market actors and stakeholders via educational outreach, academic coursework, and interactive web tools.

Project by project design assistance includes consultation in the design direction and the assessment of performance for daylighting, electric lighting, energy simulation, heating, ventilation and air conditioning systems.

Research projects focus on whole-building energy efficiency, daylighting, and high performance buildings. Example project' include the Daylighting Pattern Guide for office buildings, Targeting 100! for hospitals, and Existing Building Renewal for large office remodels.

Common partners for these activities include the Northwest Energy Efficiency Alliance's BetterBricks Initiative, The Department of Energy, The National Science Foundation, New Building's, Institute, and leading design firms.
